52. आमने-सामने झूठ नहीं बोला जाता । : Face to face the truth comes out.
53. आये थे हरि भजन को ओटन लगे कपास ।
: To set out for the church, but strand in the lurch.
54. आये सेर, खाये सवा सेर ।
: He has a large mouth but a small girdle.*
55. आये तो सारा, जाये तो सारा । : Either win the horse or lose the saddle.
56. आरंभ अच्छा तो काम हुआ ही समझो । : Well begun is half done.
57. आलस्य गरीबी की जड़ है । : Sloth is the way to poverty.

7. इच्छाएं अगर घोड़े बन जाएं तो भिखारी भी सवारी करें।
: If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
8. इच्छाओं से पेट नहीं भरता । : Wishes never fill the belly.

: (i) Between the devil and the deep sea.
(ii) Between Scylla and Charybdis.
10. इलाज से बचाव अच्छा । : Prevention is better than cure.

: He cares none who cares not for his reputation.
4. उतावला, सो बावला । : Haste makes waste.
5. उतावलेपन से काम जल्दी नहीं होता ।
: (i) Nothing can be done hastily and prudently.
(ii) Rashness doesn't solve problems.
6. उतने पांव पसारिए जितनी चादर होय । : Cut your coat according to your cloth.
7. उधार दीजै, दुश्मन कीजै । : Lending breeds enemies.
8. उत्तम विद्या लीजिये तदपि नीच में होय ।
: Learn good wisdom even from bad person.
9. उधार स्नेह की कैंची है। : You buy yourself an enemy when you lend money.
10. उन्नतिशील व्यक्ति के सामने सभी झुकते हैं । : Most worship the rising sun.
11. उचित समय पर ही कार्य कर लेना बेहतर है। : A stitch in time saves nine.
12. उपयोग करने से वस्तु ठीक रहती है। : The used key is always bright.
13. उम्मीद पर दुनिया कायम है । :
(i) It is hope which maintains most men.
(ii) As long as there is life there is hope.
14. उम्मीदों का चमन हमेशा हरा-भरा रहता है ।
: In the land of hopes, there is always spring.
